Excessive use of agricultural fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides can all have a negative impact on the local environment. Fertilizers that finds its way into lakes or rivers can cause algae to bloom, usually to the detriment of other life. Herbicide and pesticides run-off kills fresh water organisms more directly. It has the same effect on them as on the animals and plant at which it is meant to be targeted.
